Woman wins $10000 judgment against Microsoft for pushing Windows 10 updates

Teri Goldstein, of Sausalito, California sued Microsoft over a failed Windows 10 upgrade and has been awarded a judgement of $10,000.

Plan A for Goldstein was to ask Microsoft for technical support regarding her Windows 10 computer crashing often but she said that they were not able to help, Geek reported.

Microsoft has received a great deal of criticism of its aggressive pushing of Windows 10, but this is the first time the company has offered a financial settlement because of an upgrade.

Griffin Tyndall, a lawyer in Birmingham, Ala., had dismissed prompts to get Windows 10 for months but still one day woke up to find both his home and business computers welcoming him to Windows 10. Microsoft had filed an appeal, but dropped it last month. The more customers Microsoft can lure to Windows 10, the more attractive the operating system will be for software developers whose apps can lure more people to Windows.

From now until July 29, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is giving away an upgrade to Windows 10 for FREE.

“I appreciate there are Windows Mobile users out there using Imgur”. When the operating system launched, a lot of computers running Windows 8.1 were eligible for the same upgrade. Performing any Windows upgrade can sometimes result in unwanted problems but when it is forced upon you it’s an entirely different ball game. “We’re (going) to listen to customer feedback and evolve the upgrade experience based on their feedback”. After upgrading their computers in the past, some users have found that the new versions of Windows have been incompatible with their older programs or peripherals like printers.

It’s a “do or die” situation for Microsoft as far its Windows 10 Mobile OS is taken into account and the only saving grace for the tech giant is the arrival of its Surface Phone, which is slated to appear in 2017.

That said, there’s blood in the water now and it’s tough to imagine that other sharks don’t smell it. Goldstein certainly isn’t the only Windows user that’s convinced the upgrade just showed up like an unwelcome party guest drunk on tequila.
