Man king hit trying to stop fight

A 23-year-old Oxenford man is in a critical condition after being assaulted during a one-punch attack at the Glitter Strip in the early hours of this morning.

Queensland Police and emergency services were called to Orchid Ave, Surfers Paradise at about 3am where they found the man convulsing on the ground.

The man was allegedly coward-punched in the side and back of the head when he tried to break up a fight between two groups of men outside The Avenue.

Police said the 23-year-old man was several metres away from the original altercation when he was assaulted from behind by another man.

The good Samaritan fell and hit his head on the pavement.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The men involved in the fight fled the scene but were located by police at The Esplanade a short time later.

Two men, aged 27 and 29 years old are currently at the Southport Police Station assisting police with their inquires.
