Major city fire impacts three properties

County fire investigators look over the 187 Lake Shore Drive East site.


Chautauqua County Fire Investigators were on the scene this morning of a major overnight blaze in the city of Dunkirk that destroyed one dwelling and damaged two others.

Around 11 p.m. Sunday, city firefighters responded to the fully involved structure at 187 Lake Shore Drive East. Neighboring residences, at 191 Lake Shore Drive East and 105 Beagle St. also were impacted by the roaring blaze with firefighters putting forth an effort to control the fire and prevent damage to the neighboring residences.

The fires in the neighboring house were extinguished by advancing hoselines into each structure. The fire at 191 Lake Shore was extinguished by using multiple large fire streams. An extensive overhaul was done of all three residences. The scene was cleared at 0255.

191 Lake Shore Drive was unoccupied 105 Beagle St. and 187 Lake Shore Drive were both occupied, with residents are being assisted by The Red Cross. No injuries were reported.

One of the property owners stated other residents from 187 Lake Shore Drive had moved out of the property earlier Sunday to another location in the area.

Mutual aid was received by the Fredonia Fire department and East Town of Dunkirk Fire Department.
