From Ang Lee to Sam Mendes and David Fincher, Jake Gyllenhaal has worked with some of Hollywood’s top directors. but there’s only one he’s about to work with for a third time. The Oscar nominated actor is gearing up to work with Canadian director Denis Villeneuve for a third time.
Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve teamed up for two releases in 2013, the mind-bending Enemy and the controversial thriller Prisoners. They’ve now announced they will work together a third time for the adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s crime novel The Son. It follows the story of Sonny Lofthus, a criminal who escapes prison to hunt down the people responsible for his wrongful sentence. Gyllenhaal will of course play the lead role, with Villeneuve directing. The film had been at one time eyed as Channing Tatum’s directorial debut, but was recently picked up by Gyllenhaal’s production company, who brought the movie to Villeneuve.
Villeneuve has had quite an amazing run the last few years, from the successful Prisoners to Sicario, and being named the director of the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. He’s currently finishing Story of Your Life, before he begins filming Blade Runner 2.
Gyllenhaal’s ltates projects include Nocturnal Animals and Stronger, both of which have wrapped filming and are currently in post production.
