Denim Dreaming

Neighbours’ star Sarah Ellen tries on beauty’s transformative brow looks.

Denim dazzles with embellishment, new textures and playful cuts this season, and who better to showcase it – and beauty’s boldest feature, the brow – than TV’s freshest face, Sarah Ellen?

Five years on from finding Instagram fame with a viral video of her dancing eyebrows (it’s amaze), Ellen was cast in Neighbours to play the offspring of ’80s super-couple Scott (Jason Donovan) and Charlene (Kylie Minogue).

Upon hearing the news, Ramsay Street’s grease-monkey bride gave Ellen her “maternal” blessing. “[Kylie] texted me a lovely welcome to Ramsay Street message,” says Ellen. And while promoting the show on a recent UK tour, the 18-year-old also surprised her soap-dad on BBC’s The One Show. “Now I’ve been reunited with both my onscreen parents. Everyone in London goes crazy for Neighbours.”

The star fashion blogger (she has two million followers) “jumped around and freaked out” when she snagged the guest role as Madison Robinson. “It’s my first TV acting role, so I’m so lucky to start with such an iconic show. I love the cast and everyone on set; they’re like a big, happy family. We finish shooting in a few weeks and I’m going to miss them – but I might be back,” she says, hinting at a return by Madison to Erinsborough.

But there’s no acting required for Ellen to fall in love with denim on the Sunday Style shoot. “I live in jeans,” she confirms. “I love good, old baggy ones; ripped jeans; and I’m really into vintage denim.”

She was hooked on her beauty look, too – breathable fresh skin and brows as the starring feature. “I looked [at the pictures] and didn’t recognise myself. It’s amazing how getting it right can frame your face in a different way.”

“Sarah’s energy is 100 per cent natural and organic,” says Hannah Terrett, Benefit Australia’s national brow artist. “The different brow looks are transformative on her fairer colouring but in sync with her style. In this shoot we played with several, such as a feathered look as well as a unisex Korean-style brow that is straight across the top, with an angular tail.”

Ellen’s fans can re-create her fluffed-up brows with Benefit’s new brow range, available on July 22. “Start by priming with Browvo! serum [$49], build definition and colour with Ka-Brow! cream-gel [$42], then add volume with Gimme Brow gel [$39],” says Terrett.

And stay tuned for what this refreshingly likeable rising star gets up to next – it’s bound to raise a few brows.
