HOWLAND — A man was shot in the hand during an argument in the early hours of Christmas morning, police said.

Ryan Argiro, 38, of Jaguar Drive in Youngstown, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound, police said. His condition has not been released.

Peter Sfikas, 40, of South Street SE, Warren, was booked into Trumbull County Jail on a charge of felonious assault with serious physical harm.

According to Howland police, the two men were fighting in the front yard of 1323 Rosewood Drive NE just after 2 a.m. when Argrio was shot.

The Trumbull County 911 dispatch report states that the men were wrestling for the gun. Both men had their hands on the gun during the scuffle, and it was unclear who actually fired the weapon, the report states.

Lindsey Pumphrey of Reeves Road NE — listed as Argiro’s girlfriend and Sfikas’ ex-girlfriend — eventually was able to retrieve the firearm, which she locked in a drawer in the kitchen, according to the police report. Howland police confiscated the weapon.

According to the 911 report, Sfikas was angry that Argiro was with Pumphrey. The report does not say how they all came to be at the Rosewood Drive address.

Sfikas was booked into jail just before 5 a.m.
